‘I’m finally getting there’: Marsh gives injury update ahead of T20 World Cup

Trinidad, May 27 (IANS): Australia captain Mitchell Marsh is confident he has fully recovered from his hamstring problem and is ready to start his side’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign.

The all-rounder injured his hamstring early in the IPL and has not played since. However, ahead of the T20 World Cup, Marsh looked in good form during training in Trinidad and will be fit to face Oman in their opener in Barbados on June 5.

“It’s getting slower and slower, but now I’m finally getting there and I’m looking forward to participating in the tournament. Initially we thought it would take three weeks, but with tendons it can take a little longer and you have to going by feel,” Marsh told Cricket Australia.

“Once I was ruled out of the IPL, we definitely took the time to get it right. And I feel fortunate to have had that little bit of extra time, a little bit of time at home to refresh,” he added .

Marsh has not played since leaving the IPL almost a month ago due to injury and has not yet resumed bowling. However, he may have to contribute overs if Australia decide to play only three specialist bowlers as suggested by coach Andrew McDonald.

“I’m probably still off (bowling) for a while – I’ll hopefully start bowling soon. Get through these test matches as a batsman and then we’ll step it up,” Marsh said.

“We are fortunate that we have so many options with the ball and so much talent with Stoin, Greeny. I bowl when I have to bowl. I thought (this injury) was a three-week injury. Now it is like seven (weeks) With tendons it is a bit of a feeling.

“Once I was ruled out of the IPL, we definitely took our time. I am exactly where I need to be with all the plans leading up to the World Cup, I am ready to go,” Marsh said.
