Rain washes away England-Pakistan 3rd T20 – Sports

CARDIFF: Rain has again washed out a match in England’s series against Pakistan for the second time as the third Twenty20 international in Cardiff was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Tuesday.

England remain 1-0 ahead on Thursday and have yet to play at The Oval after a 23-run win in the second T20 at Edgbaston followed an opener at Headingley where bad weather again meant no play at all.

The four-match series is intended as a warm-up campaign for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States, with reigning champions England set to begin their title defense against Scotland in Barbados on June 4.

An hour before the scheduled 1730 GMT start, rain began to fall steadily in Cardiff on Tuesday, with an expected capacity of 15,600 spectators in the Welsh capital for England’s penultimate match before the T20 World Cup

But bad weather delayed the toss, with the field and square at Sophia Gardens left completely covered.

And shortly after a GMT inspection in 1910, the umpires abandoned the game due to a saturated outfield and persistent rain.
