Radio Havana Cuba | Cuba’s Fernando Arzola to the eighth finals of the Bangkok Boxing Pre-Olympic

Bangkok, May 29 (PL) – Cuban Fernando Arzola today qualified for the round of 16 of the Bangkok Boxing Pre-Olympic, the last qualifier on the way to Paris 2024, after defeating Mexican Javier Cruz in the 92 kilogram- division.

Arzola managed to win without setbacks, thanks to a unanimous decision by the jury 5-0.

In his next presentation, the Caribbean will face the Mongol Byeknur Khali, executioner of the Dominican Charles Delroy.

Also in the category up to 92 kg, Ecuadorian Gerlon Congo defeated Indian Narender Narender 3-2 this Wednesday, and Colombian Willys Mendoza defeated Congolese Gilbert Kabamba 3-2.

Congo and Mendoza will be rivals in the round of 16 of these pre-Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, in the women’s 66kg division, Mexico’s Gricelda Durán and Cuba’s Yakelín Estornell lost their respective fights against Ivanusa Moreira, of Cape Verde, and Canada’s Sara Kali, respectively.

Similarly, Colombia’s Camila Gabriela Camilo Bravo defeated Montenegrin Tamara Radunovic 5-0, while Puerto Rican Stephanie Piñeiro fell 0-5 to Indian Arundhati Choudhary.

This pre-Olympic boxing match, the last qualifier on the way to Paris 2024, will be held in Bangkok, from May 24 to June 2, with 51 quotas at stake: 23 for women and 28 for men.
