A couple were given a bill for £600 for some smoothies and a pasta dish and said they were considering ‘calling the police’.

Mykonos eatery DK Oyster has received a series of complaints over the years from people who were unaware of the high bills for meals and drinks. Several people who have returned from the sunny resort have shared similar stories.

Last year, victims Oscar Maldonado and his friend flew from Honduras to Greece for a holiday in the sun. During their break, they had lunch at the infamous DK Oyster restaurant, where several people have complained in recent years that they were paid too much.

The pair ordered two smoothies and lobster pasta without seeing the menu. When their bill finally arrived it turned out to be 400 euros. When they went to pay it rose to 600 euros (£510) as the smoothies cost 60 euros each. Oscar, 34, previously told the Mirror: “I felt tempted to call the police but I didn’t want to cause any trouble.

“I said, ‘How do you calculate this?’ He just continued to repeat ‘service charges’. I just paid and left. I was ruined for the rest of the day and it almost ruined my holiday. I would never recommend it.

“I really didn’t expect it. I live on a Honduran salary, so going to Europe is particularly difficult. It was a two-way trip. It was really frustrating. I can’t think of Mykonos without going back to this moment.

“They were really nice and the service was really good, they made conversation with us. We ordered non-alcoholic drinks. Just some smoothies. I didn’t ask about the price but then they brought the menu. It was misleading to say the least said, my friend had the lobster pasta.

“They brought us the biggest lobster, it was a pasta, but with the whole part of a lobster. It was a big piece. I thought it might cost a lot, but I never imagined that much.”
