Rihanna will not be attending the 2024 Met Gala, despite teasing an outfit to fans

Rihanna ‘is sick with the flu’ and was unable to attend Monday’s Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art due to the illness.

An insider told People on Monday that the 36-year-old singer and style icon subsequently decided to cancel after she became ill.

The Saint Michael, Barbados native was spotted in Miami on Saturday night with her boyfriend, rapper A$AP Rocky, 35, at his Puma pop-up store.

The Umbrella singer, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, sported pink hair at the event, prompting speculation that it would complement her Met Gala ensemble.

Rihanna had traveled to the Big Apple after the Miami trip, an insider told Page Six on Monday, adding that a stylist of the singer’s was “seen at the Carlyle Hotel to greet the security team who wore her jewelry” for the meeting.

The Grammy-winning musical artist was planning to attend this year’s festivities when she spoke to Extra on April 27 about her fashion plans for the annual event.

“I’m actually keeping it really simple this year,” Rihanna told the outlet while at a promotional event for her Fenty Beauty line in Los Angeles.

She added, “Very simple… I think it’s about what my makeup is going to do and what my hair is going to do. We want to play with that, but I have no idea what I’m going to do with it.’

The Don’t Stop the Music singer said her ensemble would be “really simple…compared to anything she’s ever done.”

She added, “I’m showing up for dinner! Shout out to Anna Wintour.”

In fake images that circulated Monday night, Rihanna was pictured with Katy Perry attending the gala.

Rihanna wasn’t the only superstar missing from the red carpet on Monday, as Beyoncé and Taylor Swift also skipped the procedure; according to The New York Times, they haven’t been there since 2016.

Among the big names who made their presence felt at the Met Gala were Zendaya and Jennifer Lopez.

Rihanna has gained fame for her memorable outfits she has worn to the event over the past fourteen years.

She attended her very first Met Gala in 2007, the year she released her hit Umbrella.

The singer was present at the Met Gala last year in a flowing ensemble with The Garden of Time as its theme.

The S&M artist had a regal presence at the 2018 event, themed Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, wearing a mini skirt ensemble.

Another standout outfit she donned was a daffodil yellow dress that weighed 25 pounds, for the 2015 gala theme, China: Through the Looking Glass.
