T20 world cup cricket facts five

The Ugandan team is full of vibrant characters. From 20-year-old Innocent Mwebaze to 43-year-old Frank Nsubuga, each player brings a unique personality.

There are the ‘quiet burners’, the storytellers, the team DJs and the ‘crazy’ ones.

Another set of autograph hunters emerged at the stunning World Cup opening ceremony hosted at the old but beautiful Milles Fleurs, home of the National Trust in Port of Spain.

Mwebaze and batsman Robinson Obuya eagerly sought autographs, but no one could surpass Juma Miyaji in seeking autographs and taking selfies.

Miyaji was all over the West Indians in a friendly manner and even managed to pull off a mock game with his lookalike and fellow paceman, Alzarri Joseph. It was really an eye-catcher!

From historical monuments to holy shrines, Port of Spain (POS) is a full-fledged port of it all.

Just like Uganda, Trinidad & Tobago is vibrant without any dull moments.

Here, however, the history has been more carefully preserved and the organization is a little better. POS is known for its grand carnival, with calypso and Caribbean soca music.

Adjacent to the vast Queen’s Park Savannah, a public social facility with rugby, football and cricket pitches, as well as relaxing areas, the Royal Botanic Gardens showcase plants from all over the world and also includes the Emperor Valley Zoo.

The ‘Magnificent Seven’ near Queen’s Park is a row of extravagant mansions from around 1900, dating back to Spanish colonial times.

Taking it all in every time will give you a stiff neck!

From politicians to athletes, Trinidad & Tobago has an endless list of headline makers. Let’s focus on the latter.

From sprinter Ato Boldon, four-time Olympic medalist (2 silver, 2 bronze in the 100 meters and 200 meters in 1996 and 2000), and gold medalist at the 200 meters World Championships (1997), to former Manchester United star striker Dwight Yorke, any of their sporting heroes and heroines brings back fond memories and endless discussions about their achievements.

However, cricket seems to have the most stars, and the management makes every effort to treat them with special attention.

The Queen’s Park Oval even has a special reserved parking space for iconic players like global superstar Brian Lara, left-handed maestro Sunil Narine, versatile Dwayne Bravo and former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard. Truly a house of legends!
