Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani is retiring from international football at the age of 37

Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani announced the end of his international career on Thursday at the age of 37.

Cavani, known as “El Matador”, is Uruguay’s second all-time top scorer and third most capped player, with 58 goals in 136 appearances.

“I am and will always be blessed to have put on this shirt to represent what I love most in the world, my country,” he said in a social media post dedicated to his “beloved Celeste” (nickname of the Uruguayan national team).

“I want to dedicate myself to this new phase of my career and give everything I have to where I need to be.
