Lisandra Rodríguez, the ‘Cuban Amy Winehouse’, travels to the US on humanitarian grounds

Lisandra Rodriguezknown as the ‘Cuban Amy Winehouse’ due to her striking resemblance to the late British singer, has been given permission to go to the United States with her son under the humanitarian parole program.

Although Lisandra herself has not yet commented on her journey via social media, sources close to her have shared the news and posted photos of her and her son in the Havana International Airport.

“She leaves Cuba conditionally, like a sunflower seeking light amid the blackout. Safe travels, Amy from Cuba, Lisandra Rodríguez and your son. Thank you for the friendship,” the Cuban filmmaker wrote Daniel Ross Dieguez on Facebook. He discovered Lisandra a few weeks ago when she was working as a waitress at the Escabeche bar.

Lisandra rose to considerable fame in a short time, thanks in large part to Ross Dieguez, who shared images on social media highlighting her uncanny resemblance to the British star. Numerous independent media outlets quickly picked up the story.

“Lisi, I hope that your arrival in this great country marks the beginning of a new life in which you can achieve everything you set your mind to and fight for your dreams. Your child will have the future and childhood he deserves,” wrote Letty Orta sent an emotional farewell message on Friday.

“Focus on the good things and the people who give you well-being and positive advice. It’s hard work, but you will see the results of your efforts,” she added.

“I’m heartbroken but also happy to know that you are finally free. Kisses to you both,” wrote Jacqueline Mayo Mujica.

In one of her Facebook live broadcasts this month, Lisandra shared that she and her son had been granted humanitarian parole since February last year.

Lisandra’s recent controversy

Recently, Lisandra made headlines again when she lashed out at the presenters of Con Filo for mentioning her on their program, implying that she was a victim of Miami-based communicators.

In the comments section of Con Filo’s Facebook page and later in videos posted to her profile, Lisandra made it clear that she is not aligned with Con Filo. She emphasized that she hates the “program,” does not support their falsehoods and does not speak out publicly “out of fear.”

Con Filo used her previous tense conversation with a US-based journalist Ernesto Morales as defense. Lisandra had previously told Morales in a video that he should come to the island with his family to fight for Cuba’s freedom, but she does not Mariana Grajales. Con Filo’s favorable response to her response only worsened her feelings about the meeting with Morales.

Despite her sudden fame and public gratitude to the independent media, Lisandra was abruptly fired from her job as a waitress at a bar in Old Havana. She explained that she had been working ‘without papers’, but that the incident was perceived as politically motivated.
