Canada shares higher at the close of trading; S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.89% by Investing.com

Investing.com – Canadian stocks were higher at the close on Friday as gains in the , and sectors pushed stocks higher.

At the close in Toronto, shares gained 0.89%.

The biggest winners of the session on the were Aritzia Inc (TSX:), which rose 5.06% or 1.64 points to trade at 34.05 at the close. Mattr Corp (TSX:) added 4.82% or 0.77 points to end at 16.76 and Dollarama Inc (TSX:) rose 4.23% or 5.23 points to 129.00 in late trading.

Biggest losers included Laurentian Bank of Canada (TSX:), which lost 6.52% or 1.74 points to trade at 24.95 in late trading. BRP Inc (TSX:) fell 6.10% or 5.53 points to close at 85.16 and Canadian Western Bank (TSX:) lost 4.20% or 1.11 points to 25.33.

Rising stocks outpaced declining ones by 568 to 365 and 90 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, fell 7.26% to 8.30.

In commodities trading, gold futures for August fell 0.75% or 17.80 to $2,348.70 per troy ounce. Meanwhile, crude oil for July delivery fell 0.85% or 0.66 to $77.25 per barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.50 to $81.38 per barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.41% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR was unchanged 0.30% to 0.68.

US Dollar Index Futures fell 0.07% to 104.58.
