An Uber passenger was shocked when the driver told her she had to speak English in his car.

The incident occurred in Perth last month when a Colombian visitor claimed the male Uber driver said she only spoke English in Australia and not her native Spanish.

TikToker Alejandra shared part of the interaction with the driver in a post captioned, “When the Uber driver tells me if I’m in Australia, I MUST only speak English.”

In the video, she is sitting in the backseat of the car talking to the driver and said she was on the phone with her friend.

She defended herself: ‘This is our language. Spanish is my language, and I will always speak Spanish if I want to. Even when I’m here in Australia.’

The male Uber driver’s response was not clear in the video.

‘What I’m saying is: show respect. I talk to my boyfriend about personal things and I shouldn’t think, “Oh, maybe I can talk in English so he can hear all the gossip,” Alejandra said.

The driver defended his position, but again his answer was not clear.

‘This is our language. Spanish is my language, and I will always speak Spanish if I want to. Even when I’m here in Australia,” said TikToker Alejandra (pictured).

Alejandra said, “(speaking Spanish) is my thing,” and told the driver, “We’re not making fun of you.”

‘We do not care. We only talk about our personal things, our personal lives, so I don’t understand what the problem is.’

The Uber driver finally admitted he was wrong and told her, “Okay, I’m sorry. I’m sorry’.

The rideshare driver’s actions were brutally judged by TikTok users.

“F*** away. She talks to her friend and she can speak any language she wants. Who are you to say what language she speaks?’ said one TikTokker.

“I wonder what language he speaks when he travels to non-English speaking countries?” said another.

‘But I’m sure that super driver would never speak Spanish when he comes here on holiday. English speakers are so selfish.”

Another said the driver should report it: “You can report him to Uber for his behavior, you can still do that weeks or months later.”

One response attacked Alejandra: “The problem is that you (sic) are from Colombia and those South Americans are always so loud and uneducated. Inform yourself first.’

To which she replied, “Funny. You’re telling me to educate myself first, when you’re not only discriminating against my country, but all South American countries as well?’
