‘When the time is right’: Chris Woakes posts heartfelt message about return to international cricket | Cricket news

England cricketer Chris Woakes has revealed that his absence from international cricket in recent times is due to the death of his father. “The past month has been the most challenging of my life as my father unfortunately passed away in early May,” he posted in a story on his Instagram account on Saturday.

“I have spent the last few weeks with the people who are most important to me: my family. We are all clearly grieving and trying to get through what are undoubtedly the most difficult times in our lives,” he added.

He also wrote that he would return when the time was right. “I will play cricket again for Warwickshire, who my father loved very much, when the time is right for me and my family.”

The 35-year-old did not feature for Punjab Kings in the recently concluded Indian Premier League. He was also left out of England’s squad for this month’s Twenty20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies.

The 35-year-old, who has been part of England’s T20 and One-Day International World Cup-winning teams, has played 48 Tests, 122 ODIs and 33 T20Is, taking 353 international wickets.

Festive offer

England: They don’t bottle

Despite the absence of a quality all-rounder like Woakes, England have a well-rounded squad. The England team is not only respected for its bowling innovations and great acceleration, but is also quite well-behaved and has a non-cribing side.

That’s why, unlike in the older formats of the game, no one really grudges his big wins. They also don’t bottle in this size.

English selection: Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, Mark Wood.
