Army investigates attack on troops – Voice of Nigeria

The Nigerian Army has commenced investigation into the attacks on troops of Operation UDO KA in Abia State.

The troops were attacked and six civilians were killed by terrorists of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB/Eastern Security Network, ESN in Abia State in the South East, Nigeria

The troops were deployed at Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Areas, Abia State.

Activities

In a statement, Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, said the troops, on a mission to enforce peace in the area and protect civilians, were attacked by the gunmen in three tinted Prado Toyota SUVs and other van built vehicles. In the areas surrounding the checkpoint, a surprise attack was carried out on the checkpoint.

General Buba said that “The attack unfortunately claimed the lives of five armed forces personnel who were killed in action.”

He said that “The Armed Forces mourn the deaths of these troops as every soldier lost in battle is a terrible loss.”

Caution

Overall, it must be reaffirmed that the terrorist’s lifeline is the people, and this situation is no exception.

Winning the war without popular support is virtually impossible. The IPOB took advantage of this to launch attacks on the troops. The situation leaves more to be desired.

Restraining cowardly actions

Accordingly, it is imperative that the military retaliate against this dastardly act against the troops.

“The army would react strongly. We would exert overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat.” he claimed.
