T20 World Cup 2024: ICC announces highest ever prize money for World Cup champions

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the highest ever prize money for the winners of the 2024 T20 World Cup. With a historic prize pool of $11.25 million, the upcoming tournament promises to be the most lucrative in the competition’s history. The 2024 T20 World Cup champions will receive a minimum of $2.45 million, setting a new benchmark in cricket rewards. The number two does not lag behind and takes home a substantial amount of $ 1.28 million. The semi-finalists who miss the final will each receive $787,500, which will well compensate their efforts.

Teams that don’t progress past the Super 8 stage will still earn a significant $382,500 each. Those finishing ninth through twelfth will receive $247,500 each, while teams placed between thirteenth and twentieth will receive $225,000 each. In addition, each team will earn an additional USD 31,154 for every match won during the tournament, excluding the semi-finals and finals. The 2024 T20 World Cup, with 55 matches over 28 days, will be the biggest ever ICC T20 World Cup. The event will be held in nine locations across the West Indies and the US, underscoring its global appeal and significance.

This year’s tournament format includes 40 first-round matches, with the top eight teams advancing to the Super 8s. The top four teams from the Super 8s will then advance to the semi-finals, which will take place in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. The grand final will take place in Barbados, where the 2024 men’s champions will be crowned.

ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice expressed his excitement about the event, saying: “This event is historic in so many ways, so it is fitting that the prize money for players reflects that. Hundreds of millions of fans around the world will be entertained by the players in what we hope will be an Out of This World event.”

As the cricket world gears up for this monumental event, the record-breaking prize money is sure to increase competition and build anticipation among fans around the world.
