Oleg Firer wins judgment against Grenada government for unlawful recall

SAINT GEORGE’S, GRENADA / ACCESS WIRE / June 3, 2024 / The Supreme Court of the Eastern Caribbean in the High Court of Grenada has entered judgment against the Government of Grenada, ruling in favor of Oleg Firer in a case of unlawful recall as Ambassador of Grenada.

The court stated unequivocally that the removal of Firer from his ambassadorial post, without making specific allegations of alleged impropriety or giving him an opportunity to respond, was a clear violation of his right to procedural fairness.

High Court Judge Raulston LA Glasgow said: ‘I consider that the recall of Mr Firer, without being informed of these allegations or given an opportunity to be heard, was unfair and unlawful in the circumstances of this particular case, on the basis that the recall had taken place. without the requisite procedural fairness.” Consequently, the court awarded Firer $60,000 in damages.

High Court Judge Raulston LA Glasgow said: ‘I find that the recall of Mr Firer, without being informed of these allegations or without an opportunity to hear them, was unfair and unlawful…’

Firer continues to strongly condemn the unlawful and arbitrary actions of the Government of Grenada and its Investment Migration Agency (IMA), formerly known as Grenada Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Committee. Firer has instructed its legal team to pursue further claims against these entities.
