The Nigerian Falconets will compete against Germany, South Korea and Venezuela in the Women’s Under-20 World Cup

The Nigeria Under-20 Women’s National Team have discovered their opponents for the FIFA U-20 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, Soccernet.ng reports.

After the draw held in Bogota on Wednesday, the Falconets were placed in Group D, along with European giants Germany, Asian powerhouse South Korea and Venezuela.

This is the second consecutive tournament in which Nigeria and South Korea have been drawn in the same group.

At Costa Rica 2022, Esther Onyenezide’s late strike gave Nigeria a narrow 1-0 victory. The Falconets had previously defeated France and later forced a 3-1 defeat down Canada’s throats to finish top of Group C with maximum points.

However, Nigeria suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

However, the Falconets remain the top dog on the African continent.

Nigeria edged Mauritius U20 to claim wins over Tanzania and Burundi to qualify for Colombia 2024.

Having competed in each of the 11 editions of the World Cup and in Colombia, the Falconets will aim to go one better than their best performance of second place in 2010 and 2014.

Their World Cup journey starts with a match against the Korean Republic. They will then face Germany and Venezuela to complete their group stage matches.

The expanded 24-team tournament will take place from August 31 to September 22, 2024 in Colombia.
