Saint Lucia Government Issues Zoom Meeting Scam Alert

The government of Saint Lucia has advised citizens to be wary of Zoom meeting invitation scams, warning citizens not to entertain the fraudsters.

“We have received reports of unsolicited calls asking people to join a Government of Saint Lucia Zoom meeting,” the advisory said.

However, the notice emphasized that the government did not organize the activity and that individuals should not entertain anyone who contacts them about it.

In recent times, Saint Lucians have been warned about several such scams, including offers of free online courses, Facebook ads for bargain car sales and fake social media accounts claiming to be owned by prominent local officials, including Prime Minister Philip J .Pierre.

Last month, Saint Lucia police warned local businesses about a fraudulent check scam that had resulted in thousands of dollars in losses for some businesses.

According to a police consultancy, companies received “hefty” product orders from scammers proposing payment by check from a “leading financial institution.”

The scammer insists on delivery to a remote location, and once this happens, the company later discovers that the check is fraudulent and cannot contact the customer.
