According to the Colombian Association of Flower Exporters (Asocolflores), a 10% increase in flower exports is expected this year, providing a significant boost to the national economy. Among the most exported varieties are roses, carnations, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas and astromelias, which stand out for their quality and variety. In 2023, flower exports reached a record $2.08 billion, surpassing the previous year’s figures, thanks to growing international demand.

To meet demand this season, the Colombian flower sector is creating 27,000 temporary jobs, adding to the 200,000 direct and indirect jobs that already exist. In addition, 300 additional cargo flights are planned to transport the flowers to international destinations.

While red roses remain the most popular, other varieties such as carnations, chrysanthemums and hydrangeas are gaining ground, demonstrating the diversity and versatility of Colombia’s floral offering. However, one of the key challenges for exporters is ensuring the quality and timeliness of deliveries, especially on special dates such as Mother’s Day.
