Authorities in the Bahamas recover the body of missing jet ski rider

Bahamas: After an intensive search to find the missing jet ski rider in the Bahamas, authorities have recovered the 25-year-old’s unconscious body. The two-day search ended on a sad note.

Dishon Russell, 25, a resident of Hunters, Grand Bahama, went missing around 3:00 in the afternoon on Friday.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force shared while conducting the search that local skipper William Gardiner and his cousin voluntarily participated in the rescue and found Russell’s body around 9:20 a.m. Saturday. The unresponsive body was found about half a mile offshore in the waters of Coral Beach.

Chief Inspector Sherry Armaly revealed that police officers received the information around 5 p.m. Locals informed that a jet ski operator was hit by waves, causing the jet ski vehicle to overturn.

After the body was removed, it was taken to a local hospital for further procedures. Medical professionals shared that the next step will be to conduct an autopsy to determine the actual cause of death.

Marine Support Services and Defense Forces immediately began the search operation upon receiving the information regarding Rusell’s drowning, and after a rigorous search, they successfully located and handed over the missing body.

Authorities have expressed their condolences to the family and friends to bear the pain of the loss. It also advised skiers to be careful while skiing and take precautions.

The victim’s mother, Sanika Rolle, made an emotional plea for help finding her 25-year-old son before his son’s discovery, but was left heartbroken after news of the unresponsive body reached her.

The investigation continues until authorities could determine the reason behind Dishon Russell’s death.

In a separate incident on the same day, two men were killed and one injured after a boating accident near Rose Island. According to reports, the vessel left the East Bay St marina around 6.30am and was heading to South Andros when it collided with a reef.
