60-year-old Grenadian sailor charged with drug offenses in SVG

On June 16, 2024, police arrested Dennis David, a 60-year-old sailor from Grenada, and charged him in a joint operation between police and customs personnel. As a result, David was charged with possession of control drugs, drug trafficking and importation of control drugs.

The investigation shows that the suspect was in possession of a controlled drug, namely one thousand and seventy-three grams of cannabis, with the intention of supplying it to another person. He was further charged with possessing one thousand and seventy-three grams of cannabis for the purpose of drug trafficking.

In addition, the suspect was also charged with importing a controlled drug, namely one thousand and seventy-three grams of cannabis.

The offenses took place on June 16, 2024 at Kingstown Harbour.

David appeared in court on June 17, 2024 for serious crimes. He pleaded guilty to all charges. He was fined $500.00 ECC for the Controlled Drug offence, which had to be paid immediately or face a three-month prison sentence.

For the drug trafficking charge, he was immediately fined $1,000.00 ECC, or risked three months’ imprisonment, and for the drug importation charge, he was fined $1,000.00 ECC, which he had to pay immediately, or risked three months’ imprisonment imprisonment.
