Fire and power loss reported on world’s largest cruise ship

Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, suffered a minor fire that resulted in a loss of power but did not impact operations, the company confirmed. CruiseHive.com.

“Royal Caribbean has confirmed that a small fire was quickly extinguished by the ship’s crew. This resulted in a brief loss of power, but did not impact the ship’s operations, and the voyage continued as normal.” CruiseHive.com‘S Melissa Mayntz wrote.

Prior to Royal Caribbean’s confirmation, several reports of a possible explosion and fire on board the Icon of the Seas spread on social media. The ship, which departed Miami last Saturday (June 22), is currently docked in Costa Maya, Mexico, for day four of its seven-night cruise.

Guests aboard the ship reported shivering or shaking, as well as the emergency code “Bravo Bravo Bravo,” which usually indicates a fire, heard over the ship’s public address system. Last month, a passenger on the Icon of the Seas died after jumping from the ship on the first night of its planned weeklong voyage. the New York Post reported on May 28.
