New, simplified process for registering vehicles with the licensing authority

TThe Barbados Licensing Authority (BLA) has simplified the annual registration process for private vehicles.

From Monday, July 15, 2024, when private vehicle owners renew their insurance policies, insurance companies will send the information electronically to the BLA and it will be automatically updated in the authority’s database.

Vehicle owners will then receive a notification from the BLA via email confirming their registration status. If email addresses are not available, the notification will be posted and must be kept in the vehicle so that it can be produced upon request by a police officer or transport inspector.

This new process will eliminate the need for individuals to visit BRA and will also ensure that the authority’s database is updated in real time to reflect the registration and insurance compliance of private vehicles.

The initiative is also a preparatory step for the upcoming EVTR (Electronic Vehicle Tagging Registration) system, which will put an end to road tax discs and registration stickers that were stuck on the number plates of private vehicles.
