Bucks Named in Top 30 Must-Do Experiences While Traveling the UK

According to research, a visit to Bucks is on the list of the top must-do staycation experiences in Britain.

A survey of 2,000 adults has revealed a list of the top 30 things to see and do in the UK, with Bucks coming in at number 29.

Bucks has just secured a top 30 position with the historic Ridgeway National Trail. The Ridgeway National Trail follows a route that has been used by travellers, shepherds and soldiers for at least 5,000 years. It starts in the World Heritage Site of Avebury and crosses the chalk ridges of the North Wessex Downs and Chilterns AONBs, passing Iron Age hillforts, chalk features and ancient burial mounds, before ending at Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire.

Walking or cycling the historic National Route has been touted as a must-do for a UK holiday.

The must-do activities that should be on the country’s bucket list have been compiled by British travel expert Richard Madden and Sykes Holiday Cottages, who commissioned the research.

More than eight in ten respondents (81 percent) believe that you do not need to travel to distant destinations abroad to broaden your horizons.

Graham Donoghue, CEO of the holiday rental company, said: “There is so much to do nearby when it comes to holidays and activities, and the UK has loads of exciting things to see and do.

“Our research has shown that Brits have a strong desire to tick off a wide range of experiences in this country, including must-visit museums, natural attractions and popular nature reserves.

“Although Britain may be smaller compared to other countries, there is still plenty to do in a staycation.

“Sometimes it’s just a matter of knowing where to start, but this jam-packed list should provide some inspiration.”

The research also shows that 78 percent of Brits are determined to explore more of Britain, while a quarter have a special bucket list of British experiences they want to tick off.

It also found that 45 percent still haven’t discovered places of interest within an hour’s drive of where they live, despite the average adult typically venturing 210 miles from home to holiday elsewhere in Britain.

Award-winning travel writer and author Richard Madden added: “It’s great to see that travellers’ sense of adventure is just as strong while away as it is abroad.

“During my time as a travel writer, I’ve discovered that Britain has no shortage of unforgettable locations, historic monuments, unique experiences and incredible wildlife.

“Hopefully this new research will spark ideas for travel closer to home this year.”
