Uruguay on the brink of quarters, USMNT has work to do

While Group C leaders Uruguay need just one point to ensure they go through in first place – and are likely to progress even if they lose – the USMNT are less well placedAfter losing to Panama in their second match of the round-robin stage, the hosts are now in second place in the group’s quarter-finals, but are only ahead of the Panamanians on goal difference.

Anything less than a win may not be enough to advance the US to the final eight Even if Gregg Berhalter’s men beat the Uruguayans, their fate is not in their hands. They have to hope that Panama doesn’t beat Bolivia by a margin big enough to offset a -2 goal deficit.
