Rohit Sharma and his T20 World Cup-winning team are unlikely to leave the Caribbean island of Barbados before Tuesday morning (India time) due to Hurricane Beryl, weather data shows.

According to the US National Hurricane Centre, the “category 3 hurricane” Beryl was located almost 180 km south of Barbados at around 2:00 pm (IST) on July 1 with a wind speed of 195 km/h.

Berly likely to cause flooding and heavy rainfall in Barbados

Over the next twelve hours, the hurricane will strengthen again to a Category 3 hurricane, with winds of 215 kilometers per hour. However, data indicates that Barbados will probably be out of its sphere of influence by then.
The Indian cricket team, which defeated South Africa in a nail-biting thriller at Kensington Oval in Barbados, is stuck in the Caribbean due to the suspension of flights.

According to flight tracking site Flightradar24, Grantley Adams International Airport cancelled more than 30 flight arrivals and at least 29 departures on July 1.

Hurricane Beryl is categorized as the second most powerful hurricane in the Caribbean

In addition to Barbados, hurricane warnings have been issued for Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadine Islands on other Caribbean islands.

Beryl will bring hurricane-force winds, dangerous storm surges and waves, and heavy rainfall totaling 3 to 6 inches (7.5 to 15 centimeters) across Barbados and the Windward Islands on Monday, with risks of flooding in low-lying areas, the center said.

It is the first hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season and is considered the first Category 4 hurricane to occur in June.
