T20 World Cup-winning Indian team to return home on charter flight

Barbados:The Indian cricket team, which won the 2024 T20 World Cup, is likely to leave Guyana tomorrow evening (local time), weather permitting.

The Barbados government has given the long-awaited “all clear” signal following the hurricane, with services on the island expected to resume, with the airport likely to reopen later Monday evening.

With this, the Indian team and BCCI officials now hope to catch a charter flight home, thanks to the tireless efforts of BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who came here for the final.

Now that all is clear, the charter plane can fly from the US or the UK to the island. If the weather conditions are good, the plane will arrive here Monday evening or Tuesday morning, so that the contingent can leave for Delhi on Tuesday afternoon or evening.

Shah told PTI that he was making arrangements for a charter flight to take the Indian team and BCCI officials directly to Delhi, with a stopover in the US or the UK for refuelling.

The BCCI is in contact with charter companies to get out of here as soon as possible. Large parts of the island are still struggling with power outages, loss of internet connection and disruptions to the water supply.

The weather remained poor, although the worst of Hurricane Beryl has passed the island. Coastal areas through Monday, mainly in the south and north, experienced storm surges in the wake of Beryl.
