Reality TV star and baker-entrepreneur Angela Simmons has apologized for attending an awards show with a bag shaped like a gun, multiple media sources report. (Click the link for a photo of the “gun bag.”)

Simmons, the daughter of Run-DMC star Rev Run, posed with the sequined green clutch in the shape of a gun at the BET Awards on Sunday.

“When I chose the bag, I thought it was cute and unique, and I made a bad decision by using it as an accessory to emphasize my beauty,” she wrote to her eight million followers on Instagram.

“I deeply regret that this object, which symbolizes a weapon, was inappropriate and insensitive, especially given my personal and societal experiences with gun violence.”

Simmons, known for the TV series Run’s House and Growing Up Hip Hop, went on to say that her partner died as a result of gun violence, calling it “a disease that has taken too many lives.”

Sutton Tennyson, Simmons’ ex-fiancé and the father of her son, was shot dead in 2018.

“By carrying this bag I did not intend to promote gun violence in any way,” she wrote.

“It was a mistake that does not define who I am or my commitment to ending gun violence. To anyone who was hurt or offended by my actions, I offer my deepest apologies.”

At the Black Entertainment Awards in Los Angeles, she posed with the bag, which perfectly matched her green, bejeweled dress, and showed it to photographers on the red carpet.

Simmons is also the director of Angela’s Cakes, a company that sells baking products.
