Petronas announces gas discovery – CompressorTECH²

Third discovery in the region off the coast of Suriname

Petronas has made a third hydrocarbon discovery in Block 52 at the Fusaea-1 exploration well in Block 52 in Suriname, located approximately 170 km off the coast of Suriname.

The well was struck in February and successfully drilled to a total depth of 5,227 m at 0 LTI, encountering several oil and gas-bearing Campanian sandstone reservoir packages. Further evaluation is underway to determine the full extent of this discovery and its potential for integrated development with the recent discoveries of Roystonea-1 and Sloanea-1.

“The favorable results achieved from the Fusaea-1 exploration well have strengthened Petronas’ position in Suriname in terms of material hydrocarbon resources, following the discoveries of Sloanea-1 and Roystonea-1,” said Petronas’ Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Upstream, Datuk. Adif Zulfikfli.

Mohd Redhani Abdul Rahman, Petronas Vice President of Exploration, said these discoveries significantly expanded the prospectivity and integrated potential for oil and gas development within Block 52. In pursuit of sustainable and high-quality material resources, Petronas remains committed to its exploration activities in selected focus regions as part of its portfolio rationalization efforts.

Block 52, which covers an area of 4,749 km2, is located north of the coast of Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname, in the future Suriname-Guyana basin. Petronas Suriname E&P is the operator of Block 52 with a 50% stake together with ExxonMobil.

In addition to Block 52, Petronas Suriname E&P operates Block 48 and Block 63 with a 100% stake and 30% non-operating interest in Block 64.
