Air Canada increases service to YOW by almost 60% compared to last year – Ottawa Business Journal

Air Canada announced Friday it will expand its service to Ottawa with up to 30 additional weekly flights for the winter season compared to last year; nonstop flights to Calgary and Winnipeg extended to year-round; additional capacity added to Quebec, Halifax and Vancouver; and more flights to Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Orlando, Cancun and Punta Cana for winter 2024

“Ottawa is an important part of Air Canada’s network and in response to demand we are expanding our capacity to our nation’s capital by nearly 60 percent compared to 2023,” said Mark Galardo, executive vice-president, revenue and network planning . , at Air Canada.

Air Canada’s joint venture partner United Airlines is also expanding capacity to Ottawa this winter, with additional flights to Chicago and Washington-Dulles every day. In total, the combined Air Canada and United Airlines US flight from Ottawa (excluding flights to Florida) offers:

  • Ottawa to Chicago (three times a day)
  • Ottawa to New York-Newark (three times daily)
  • Ottawa to Washington-Dulles (three times daily)
  • Ottawa to Washington-Reagan (once daily)

It is extremely welcome news for the tourism industry, for business owners and for Ottawa residents traveling to destinations across North America,” said Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe.

President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism Michael Crockatt agreed, saying Air Canada’s decision to increase flight capacity to Ottawa is an important development for the city.

“This improvement will make it easier for Canadian and American visitors to reach Ottawa, supporting the growth of corporate events, sports hosting, tour operators and leisure visitation. It is incredibly encouraging to see the confidence Air Canada has in our destination and we look forward to welcoming even more travelers to experience all that Ottawa has to offer,” said Crockatt.

Joel Tkach, vice-president of business development and marketing at the Ottawa International Airport Authority, said the move strengthens Air Canada’s presence at YOW.

“Timely and strategically, these flights meet the needs of Ottawa-Gatineau residents as they fly to their favorite destinations or welcome visitors from afar,” he said.
