Radio Havana Cuba | Vice President Mohammad Mokhber will serve as interim president of Iran

Tehran, May 20 (RHC)–Following the tragic death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage in a helicopter crash in northwestern Iran, the First Vice President has taken over as interim president.

Iran’s constitution stipulates that the first vice president will temporarily take over in the event of the death or serious illness of the sitting president, for a period of 50 days.

Mohammad Mokhber, who served as President Raeisi’s first deputy since 2021, has taken over as acting president for 50 days, in accordance with constitutional requirements.

Mokhber, who holds a PhD in international law, was born in 1955 in the city of Dezful in the southern province of Khuzestan. He rose through the ranks and took on important social and political roles.

Mokhber, a highly experienced executive who was chosen by Raeisi as his first vice president after the historic 2021 presidential election, has impressed everyone with his work.

Ebrahim Raeisi, known as ‘People’s President’, rose through the ranks to become president of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He earned both love and admiration for his people-oriented politics.
Raeisi won the mandate with a landslide election victory in 2021, surpassing all his main competitors, some of whom withdrew their applications and supported his bid.

Due to Mokhber’s years of experience in top management positions, especially as president of the Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order (EIKO), also known as Setad, he was automatically chosen as Raeisi’s executive deputy.

Mokhber was head of Setad for almost fourteen years between 2007 and 2021. During this long period, his passion for social welfare, hard work and dedication to the revolutionary cause was something that made him a popular figure.

His works in Setad included the establishment of the Barakat Foundation, the Ehsan Foundation and the production of the first Iranian COVID-19 vaccine known as CONIRAN BAREKAT. Due to his work with Setad, he was placed on a sanctions list by the European Union in July 2010 and removed from the list two years later.

Since 2021, he has been working tirelessly to implement the Raeisi government’s social security schemes, working closely with the likes of the President himself.

Mokhber will probably be one of the candidates when the new elections take place in fifty days.
