Canadian mayor praises Lagos under Tinubu during Obi’s event

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown expressed his admiration for Lagos State during his 2007 visit.

Brown said this during a town hall meeting organized by the Coalition of Nigerian Canadian Interest Groups based in Canada to honor the Labor Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

As seen in a video posted late on Saturday by a tweep, Wale Adedayo, who tweeted as @Mario9jaa, Obi was seen standing next to Brown as he addressed the cheering crowd.

Brown said: “I went to Nigeria in 2007. I went to Lagos and fell in love with the country. Two years ago I went back and toured the country again. Every time you visit Nigeria, you say to yourself, ‘When can I go back?’

He stated that he was “blown away” by the country’s film industry, Nollywood.

“There is a lot of love for Nigeria in my city,” he said.

Graham McGregor, member of provincial parliament in Brampton North, tweeted on Sunday as @BramptonGraham: “In Brampton we have one of the fastest growing Nigerian-Canadian communities. I’ve been talking to a few people here who are from Brampton and there’s a lot of exciting things going on.

He noted the importance of building an “open, inclusive, welcoming economy for all. And in terms of the connections that we build here with the Nigerian-Canadian community, we want to make sure that Nigerians are part of that.”
