I grew up in Brazil: this is what I want for the summer

Marina Larroudé grew up immersed in Brazil’s vibrant culture and style, and her innate sense of fashion (especially her taste in shoes) reflects her colorful upbringing. Now that she is shopping for the upcoming summer season and working on the next collection for Larroude, her perspective is deeply influenced by the vibrant, sun-drenched spirit of her homeland. How did growing up in Brazil influence your personal style?

My love for color and print certainly has a lot to do with my own origins. When I first moved to New York in the early 2000s, I noticed that editors often wore tons of black. I then realized that it would be an advantage if I stayed true to myself and dressed in my colorful style. I would stand out. That was also the key to finding and sticking to my personal style.

What excites you most about Larroudé’s latest and greatest pieces?

I appreciate the ease with which fashion and whimsical pieces can be brought into everyone’s daily lives. I especially love the Hibiscus sandal we created in collaboration with Nordstrom. Even though it’s made of rubber, I love it in black because it has such a chic look. You can wear it all summer long, both in the city and on the beach.
