Ex-President of Brazil Bolsonaro hospitalized with skin infection

SAO PAULO – Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said on May 5 that he had to be readmitted to hospital in the northern city of Manaus for a skin infection caused by bacteria, adding that there was no forecast when he might be discharged.

Bolsonaro said on social media that he had been hospitalized again with erysipelas, a skin disease he had in 2022, and again on May 4, when he was also briefly hospitalized, a spokesman said.

Mr Bolsonaro is ineligible for political office until 2030 for spreading misleading electoral information during the 2022 elections, when he lost a bid for re-election to left-wing Mr Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

He has also been formally charged by police with fraud relating to his Covid-19 vaccination records. REUTERS
